Discover Sant Francesc Xavier through our 7 recommendations
Only 4 kilometres away from La Savina port, we find Sant Francesc Xavier, the capital of Formentera. Its beautiful church and lively atmosphere on the main street and square make it a must-see on any outing to Formentera by boat. Here are 7 places you mustn’t miss to enjoy this town during your escape to the most heavenly island in the Mediterranean.
1. Sant Francesc Xavier Church
This temple is a real fortress against pirates and other invaders. Built in the early 18th century, the island’s people would hide here in times of danger seeking the protection of its remarkably thick walls and the ironclad doors. It is doubtlessly one of the best samples of a fortified church on the Pityusic Islands.
This shop is only a few metres away from the Sant Francesc Church. Here you will find all kinds of things, from beautiful ornaments to raffia carpets, accessories, women’s and children’s clothes and many other tempting items... You are bound to fall in love with something there. It’s on the main street. You can’t miss it. Web
It was once called II Mundo Insólito (Unusual World), but that’s all that’s changed, because Daisy continues to bring finds from her winter trips. Her collection includes very tasteful clothes, handbags and other accessories. This shop is also on the main street.
This pleasant restaurant next to Sant Francesc Church is perfect if you want to stop for a morning snack, lunch or afternoon coffee. It has two pleasant terraces and its menu includes salads, piadinas, hamburgers, sandwiches and pasta. Web
5. La Mukkeria
If you have a craving for ice-cream, stop at number 1, Santa María street and enter this Italian ice-cream parlour. If you can’t decide on which flavour, we recommend the pistachio one. Delicious!
6. S'Abeurada de Can Simonet
On number 11, Pla del Rei street, towards the end of the street, you will find this restaurant that offers Mediterranean dishes. It may not be right in the heart of the town, but we recommend it for its good value for money and great atmosphere. We’re sure you’ll like its decoration, cakes and unmistakable local accent. Web
Very close to the church and CanaPepa restaurant, you’ll find this shop. It’s like entering Ali Baba’s cave with all its oriental and hippy clothes and accessories.
